Hello Little Mermaid Parents and Actors,
WOW!! ---whoever would have expected that we would be still waiting to put on a show at this point....... The good news is.....there are some opportunities available to us to make this happen! We have had to wait to see when things would start to open...but now that we are starting to see a possible light at the end of the tunnel...it's time to move forward! Mr. Singewald and I have been in communication and assessing the situation. What we have decided at this time is that there is a possibility that we could have a show at the end of July. With that being said, and monitoring the ability to do this as Governor Walz continues to open up things going forward, I would like to know who would be able to participate in putting on a show at the end of July. This is what the scenario would look like: --start Zoom meeting practices with smaller groups with lines the week of June 20th --All lines/songs HAVE to be memorized by the start of in-person practices ( i think you might have time to make this happen) --start in-person practices the week of June 29th or July 6th --practices would be held during the day, in smaller groups, until we are ready to pull everything together. I would meet with groups in both the morning and afternoon during this time. --Our tech week would be the week of July 27th and practices would be during the day. (There would not be a Saturday tech day) --we would present the play Friday July 31st and Saturday August 1st in the evening at 7:00pm------with this there could be a limit to how many family members could attend--again--depending on updates from Governor Walz------- --we have the rights to videotape the show so there are many options with this...including the possibility of looking into streamlining it so others could see it. What I need to know at this point would be-----Are you still able to participate and be in the show with the given information and where we are at in this situation? If I have enough participants able to still do this----we will go ahead. If you cannot, and I understand if that is the situation, I will recast the part--- if it is one that is necessary. What I ask of you, use this link to fill out a quick form regarding your student's availability. CLICK HERE FOR FORM!! I want to make this work for the students---they deserve the opportunity to do this if we can make it work!!!! I look forward to your response and am available to answer any questions. Please feel free to text/call me with your concerns, or email them. I look forward to making this happen! I still plan on getting married in August...so as we like to say...the show must go on...and we will however we can in a safe way! I miss you all! Ms. Becker 612-900-5912 [email protected]

Dear Parents,
First, I would like to thank you for your understanding in the changes we have had to make regarding practice. We try to keep these at a minimum, but they are sometimes unavoidable. Over the past few weeks, my mother was diagnosed with some heart issues. As a result she was recuperating at Madonna Towers in Rochester for rehabilitation. During this time she developed a pressure ulcer, which has since become worse and resulted in her admittance to the wound clinic in Rochester. I have been with her since yesterday and will be staying through the weekend. Due to this, I will be cancelling practice tomorrow in both the am and pm. I will be back in school on Monday, with the hope that all goes well over the next few days. I would like to make the following changes to the schedule for next week based upon the practices that had to be cancelled this week. Monday March 16th 3:40-6:00pm: Number: Under the Sea and Kiss the Girl Actors Needed: Sea Creatures, Lagoon Animals, Sebastian, Ariel ,Prince Eric, Flounder, Scuttle, Mersisters, Flotsam, and Jetsam (Sea Creatures may leave at 5:00--- Scuttle, Flotsam, Jetsam and Prince Eric are needed from only 5-6---everyone else is needed from 3:40-6) Tuesday March 17th 8:30-9:05am in Ms. Becker's room Number: One Step Closer Actors Needed: Prince Eric and Ariel Thursday March 19th 8:30-9:05 am in Ms. Becker's room Number: Poor Unfortunate Souls Actors Needed: Tentacles (Ursula is gone to St. Croix) All other practices: Monday and Friday AM, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday PM are as scheduled. Thank you again for your understanding and patience. Ms. Becker Good evening.
After this afternoon's blocking of "Under the Sea", Ms. Becker would like to add the sea creatures to the Friday afternoon practice so they can run through the number a couple of more times while the changes are still "fresh". Sea Creatures will practice until 5pm and the other actors will go until 6pm. (Please let Ms. Becker know if there are any schedule conflicts b/c of the change) UPDATED Friday March 13th 3:40-6:00pm in the Auditorium Scenes: Scene 15--The Lagoon Actors Needed: Prince Eric, Ariel, Sebastian, Scuttle, Flounder, Lagoon Animals/Sea Chorus, Jetsam, and Flotsam Sea Creatures added from 3:40-5:00pm in the Auditorium As we start to get into busier practice schedules - we also have a few volunteer needs popping up. If you are able to help out, it is a GREAT way to get involved in the play and to appreciate all the work that the kids put into it! Please let me know (if you didn't already indicate it on the registration sheet) if you are interested in helping out in any of the following areas: ** Costumes -- take direction from Julie Kelly & Rosemary Holms on creating costumes. May include some sewing but also gluing, painting, etc. All skill and creative levels welcome! ** Actor Headshots & "Star Wall" -- a team to take individual photos of all actors and stage crew for display outside the auditorium for the performances. ** Service Projects for Sat practice - Apr 18 is also Savage Day of Service so we'd like to join in! A parent team is needed that can get kids working on projects during their downtime and deliver items to City Hall that Sat. Liz Lockhart is heading up St. John's involvement so we'll follow her direction :) ** Distribute Posters - we could use a couple of people willing to put up posters in our Community so we can promote the 3 performances! *More help will be needed as we get closer to April with make-up/hair, practice supervision, Tech Week meals, etc but we'll wait to send a note once we determine specific needs or schedules! If you have not completed your VIRTUS/Safe Environment training (necessary for volunteering around youth) - Saint Michaels is offering the VIRTUS class Tues, Mar 31 at 6pm. Sign up online at www.virtus.org Thank you for all the support so far for the actors and directors -- We have less than 7 weeks until showtime!! Mary Erickson **Updated on March 12**
Reminder: Students are to enter through door #17 by the music room for any morning practices with Mr. Case. Students who have practice in the morning with Ms. Becker should come to the 5th grade doors at 8:25am to be let in. Students will not be allowed to enter through any other school doors in the morning. Please do not have your child enter through the Kids Care doors or the main entrance (the entrance by the 4th and 5th grade hallway can be used only if you have practice with Ms. Becker). In addition, due to the teachers having morning bus duty and not being in their rooms until 9:10, students are not allowed to go to their rooms after morning practice. They need to go to the waiting area by the main doors until the bell rings at 9:10. Please check the schedule for when your child has practice. If there is a schedule change, please check to see if it affects your child. We have had students miss practice or come to practices they do not need to be at. In addition, there have been a number of LATE pick-ups. Please pick up your child at the ending time. Please refer to the ending time for each day, as this may change over the next few weeks as we move into longer practices. If we continue to have late pick-ups, we will need to look into other alternatives for students who are not picked up at the end of practice. Also, I have had several people inquire about being gone on Saturday April 18th. This is a MANDATORY tech day for everyone in the cast. If you have spoken to me prior to trying out, you are excused. This week of April 20th-24th will also be mandatory. Please make any changes now to other commitments so that you are able to have your child at practice during this Mandatory tech week. FYI: After Spring Break we will be running the Scenes in order. The 8th graders will be gone March 18th-20th. This schedule was very hard to put together, since many things need to be blocked before the leave. PLEASE try to make your assigned practice. If you miss a practice you will need to be updated from another cast member. We will not be reteaching blocking to those who have missed. Thank you for your understanding!!
